Furniture store IKEA warns of unsafe changing table
Furniture store IKEA recently launched an urgent recall and warns customers of a lack of security that can lead to serious injuries. According to the company, the fold-out part of a changing table can come loose if the security fittings are not attached as described in the instructions. IKEA has had three incidents in which children have dropped from the table.
According to IKEA, the affected product is the "SUNDVIK" changing table. Apparently there were repeated incidents at the changing table, in which the fold-out part for changing the diaper has come loose and the babies have crashed. According to IKEA, however, this was due to improper or missing attachment of the security fittings. For safety reasons and as a precautionary measure, the furniture store still calls the affected article back.
Safe with correct assembly
The company emphasizes that the chest of drawers is safe when properly assembled and used. "IKEA is convinced that the product is safe to use if it is used according to the instructions," the furniture store wrote in a customer information. IKEA is known that customers use the product daily as a changing table and do not use the enclosed security fittings according to the operating instructions.
IKEA asks customers to check
The furniture store asks all buyers of the chest of drawers to check whether the fold-out part has actually been secured with the security fittings. “If the fittings can no longer be found, they can be obtained free of charge from IKEA,” says the company. No proof of purchase or receipt is necessary for this. Furthermore, IKEA asks to use the piece of furniture primarily for changing diapers for small children. If the child no longer needs to be changed, the top can be folded in and fixed in order to continue using the changing table as a chest of drawers. (vb)
