Foreign body detection: organic salami is recalled
Ökoland GmbH has started a recall for various types of salami because foreign bodies were found in them. According to the manufacturer, the parts found are not classified as hazardous to health.
Blue plastic particles in salami
Ökoland GmbH from Wunstorf, Lower Saxony, is recalling the two products "Lamb salami air-dried 150 g", batch 23394, BBD 07.03.2019 and "Colbassa salami air-dried 150g", batch 23395, BBD 07.03.2019, due to a foreign body finding. "The foreign bodies are small blue plastic particles," writes the company in a message that was published on the portal "Lebensmittelwarnung.de" of the federal states and the Federal Office of Consumer Protection.
Not harmful to health
According to the manufacturer, it cannot be ruled out that these plastic parts may be contained in other salamis of the batches mentioned.
"The color of the particles in the salami is clearly recognizable," says the message.
And: "Because of the size of up to about 2 mm, these parts are classified as not hazardous to health."
The purchased packs of the sausages mentioned can be returned for replacement.
Foreign bodies in food
In food production, due to errors in the manufacturing processes, contamination or foreign bodies such as aluminum or plastic residues can occur again and again.
These can sometimes lead to injuries and health problems when consumed.
Depending on the size, nature and material of the swallowed body, chewing injuries can occur in the mouth and throat.
Depending on the size, swallowed plastic parts can block the esophagus or the digestive organs.
If smaller parts remain in the body, they can sometimes cause inflammation. Digestion or stomach problems and internal injuries cannot be excluded.
It can become especially dangerous if the objects are glass. (ad)
